Ylang Ylang Perfume

SBT collection

Deliciously, Delicately sweet

The ylang-ylang perfume note comes from the vivid yellow flower of Cananga odorata – a tree native to Southeast Asian rainforests, particularly the Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea, and Malaysia. With time, these trees have made their way across the Indian Ocean, reaching the African continent and beyond. The ylang-ylang perfume oil is extracted via steam distillation and is used as a middle or heart note in many fragrances.

Ylang-ylang is a heady, floral fragrance. It’s slightly sweet with fruity undertones (much like jasmine). And with the right notes, it can also give off a spicy vibe. Ylang-ylang works well with a range of fragrance notes, especially those of the citrus and woodsy variety. Some notes that ylang-ylang plays well with are bergamot, rose, jasmine, melon, sandalwood, and vetiver.

Ylang-ylang is widely perceived as a highly sensual, stimulating fragrance – an electrifying addition to any home or workplace. It’s also known to relieve stress and promote feelings of well-being, making it a great scent to unwind with after a long day out.

Ylang-Ylang Perfumes

This shimmering, flowery-sweet essential oil is a staple in many classic women’s fragrances, but can also surprise in more contemporary scents. In fact, statistics suggest that you’ll find the ylang-ylang note in just about 40% of quality perfumes today!

But perhaps no fragrance sports this note more famously than Chanel’s No. 5. A beautiful, elegant blend of ylang-ylang, rose, jasmine, neroli, and vanilla, this perfume behemoth was once the bestselling perfume in the world, and continues to be among the most coveted ylang-ylang fragrances today. This is a perfume that exudes elegance, panache, and determination – qualities of a woman who knows exactly what she wants in life and will stop at nothing to get it. Chanel also uses this floral note in Gabrielle, a lively, feminine bloom that incorporates four white flowers – jasmine, tuberose, orange blossom, and of course, ylang-ylang. Compared to No. 5, this is a warmer, sweeter fragrance that would perhaps appeal to a younger woman in search of a scent that sits between innocence and complexity. Ylang-ylang is also a key player in Dior’s J’Adore, a floral-fruity combination of jasmine, rose, pear, and melon. This is a fabulously feminine and extraordinarily sensual ylang-ylang perfume recipe that manages to showcase both the note’s soothing and seductive sides at once.
