The ylang-ylang perfume note comes from the vivid yellow flower of Cananga odorata – a tree native to Southeast Asian rainforests, particularly the Philippines, Indonesia, New Guinea, and Malaysia. With time, these trees have made their way across the Indian Ocean, reaching the African continent and beyond. The ylang-ylang perfume oil is extracted via steam distillation and is used as a middle or heart note in many fragrances.
Ylang-ylang is a heady, floral fragrance. It’s slightly sweet with fruity undertones (much like jasmine). And with the right notes, it can also give off a spicy vibe. Ylang-ylang works well with a range of fragrance notes, especially those of the citrus and woodsy variety. Some notes that ylang-ylang plays well with are bergamot, rose, jasmine, melon, sandalwood, and vetiver.
Ylang-ylang is widely perceived as a highly sensual, stimulating fragrance – an electrifying addition to any home or workplace. It’s also known to relieve stress and promote feelings of well-being, making it a great scent to unwind with after a long day out.
