Grapefruit (Citrus Paradisi) perfume oil is one of the most commonly used essential oils in perfumery. A sparkling quality permeates the note, evoking a refreshing sweetness. And here, we should mention that even though grapefruit comes from the citrus family, its aroma is somewhat different and, in addition to the freshness citruses are so notable for, takes some olfactory liberties of its own. In particular – grapefruit has an iconic, herbaceous woody bitterness that’s so rarely found in its other citrusy cousins. The end result is a rather unique fragrance note that’s both sharp and refreshing, and perhaps just a tad opulent as well, thanks to its multifaceted character.
Grapefruit notes are usually found among the top notes of a fragrance. They’re incorporated into quite a handful of summery citrus blends as well woody aromatics. Grapefruit pairs exceptionally well with notes like rosemary, basil, lavender, and musk.
