Dark perfumes possess bold, sophisticated aromas that tend to dominate any room they’re in. They tend to feature earthy, deep, and sensual notes. Almost like a heavy fog, these are the notes that linger in the air. Most notably: leather, oakmoss, musk, patchouli, amber, oud, and several other heavier, woody notes.
We can draw strong parallels between this smell profile and similar color themes, as well. For instance, while the traditional perfume’s color palette consists of pinks, reds, and blues – a dark fragrance is more closely associated with black, purple, and crimson hues.
Although they aren’t unpleasant to smell, dark perfumes definitely lean more toward the heavier end of the scent spectrum. And much like a dark moonless night, they’re profoundly enigmatic and sometimes difficult to understand. But once you start using them, you’ll quickly discover that a few drops can instantly make you feel sexier, more confident, and more powerful. That’s when you’ll realize you don’t need to understand them at all. All you have to do is go along for the ride.
